The Boarders head to the Roller Disco during their In Weekend
Easter weekend saw summer come early. The past week, however, was a gentle reminder that we still live in the UK – wind, rain and hail descended on us as the children returned this week. The weather was thankfully much kinder this weekend, as we saw our 104 full-time boarders enjoy the first In Weekend of the Summer Term... and what a weekend it was.
Saturday saw the children enjoy an array of activities – there was a marble run challenge, the art room was buzzing, the food tech room was baking away and the dance floor was being set alight! The children enjoyed the windy weather too, with sport being played on the Bastion (the all-weather pitch) and cricket being practised in the nets. After a yummy supper, the children headed in to their Houses for Movie Night and treats.
Sunday welcomed the sun and what a glorious day it turned out to be. After an inspiring chapel by Mr Shaw, and letter writing, the children were spoilt for choice in terms of activities. The Year 8s headed off to Cadbury Hill – the ancient site of Camelot, for a walk, whilst the remaining year groups enjoyed activities at school.
The kayaks were all out in the pool, there were teddies zip-lining down the main building, the go-karts were setting fastest laps and Mrs Schreiber and her bakers were baking scones for our afternoon cream tea – over 150 scones in all. After a scrumptious roast lunch, the fun really started...
The children donned roller skates and headed to the Sports Halls for a Roller Disco. The venue was transformed into a 70s disco club in New York. The children had a blast – I am sure that they will share tales of their roller-skating prowess! After the disco sessions, we all headed to the Annex and the adjacent lawn for cream teas, complete with clotted cream and REAL tea. (The children insisted on tea and not squash…and rightly so!) The weather was perfect for the occasion and we all enjoyed our scones and tea on picnic blankets. After this, we all headed in for an afternoon film and then supper followed at 6pm. I have no doubt that the children would have slept very well and will have made many fantastic memories with their friends. This was the perfect way to kick-start the summer term.
I would also like to like this opportunity to remind parents, family and friends to follow us on Twitter – a great way to see the fun as it happens.
