Year 6 Mathematicians take on the Bryanston Maths Challenge
On Friday the 18th four very eager Year 6 mathematicians travelled across to Bryanston to compete in the Bryanston Year 6 Maths Challenge.
26 schools entered teams (50 teams in total) so it was an extremely tough competition but our mathematical ambassadors, Henry A, Will F, May H and Imogen S did amazingly well battling through three very tricky maths puzzles. The first round was called ‘Find the Value’, which involved matching values with some tricky algebra equations. The second round was a series ‘Target Number’ type questions, similar to the puzzles used on the popular TV show Countdown. The third, and final round, was a sequence of progressively more challenging maths word problems, called the ‘The Big Event’, which attempt to stretch and test their understanding of all the concepts they have learnt in maths so far.
Our four mathematicians did their very best through the gruelling two hours of nonstop maths and I was enormously proud of them all.
