A fantastic fun-filled In Weekend for the boarders
Bagpipes, Scottish Dancing, biltong, Christingles and pizzas…just a few of the amazing things that the boarders enjoyed this weekend, our last “In weekend” of the first term. The children were smartly turned out for the Boarders’ Feast on Saturday evening – the meal was delicious, the pudding was greeted with big smiles and the singing was top-notch!
After our dinner, under the watchful eye of our Scottish-dancing expert, Mr Robertson, the Sports hall was transformed into a Scottish dance floor. Grace C was judged to be the most impressive dancer of the evening – the competition was fierce as all the children did particularly well.
Sunday morning, after breakfast and letter writing, saw the start of an action-packed programme – which had everything from archery, go-kart racing, baking cookies, 5-a-side football (complete with 80s music in the background), mountain biking – safari-style, sewing Christmas beanbags, biltong making, a Christmas-jumper walk and…building Santa ejector seats! Mr and Mrs Davis, in their last ever Sunday at Hazlegrove, treated the children to their legendary damper bread and s’mores in the woods. The children will miss you both and all the fantastic activities that you have always offered.
And while all of this was going on, the children were making their own pizzas in the outdoor pizza oven and popping in and out of the photo booth – complete with 6 suitcases of props!
The end of the afternoon saw the children head into the theatre for our Christingle service, led by Mrs Fenwick. It was a very moving service – with the children sitting in complete darkness and then lighting individual candles (on their Christingles) and then filling the room with candlelight. The little ones then performed the Nativity which was very special and very sweet. A big thank you to Mrs Fenwick for all of the care and thought that went into both the service and the play.
A Sunday night is never complete without Dover Patrol – and what an evening for it. The moon was shining bright and the mist was rolling in. The perfect setting for lots of little children dashing about, avoiding detection. We have some potential spies in our midst…
We rightly thanked a large number of people over the last two days, who made this weekend possible – Mr and Mrs Fenwick, the Catering team and the staff but I would also like to make special mention of the children who were all delightful company and real assets to the school and boarding family; and their parents should all be very proud of them.
Until next term…we would like to wish you, your children and family, all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
