Remembrance, World Records and Recording Studio fun for the boarders
This Sunday was somewhat different. Instead of the usual casual outfits, we dressed in school uniform, making sure we were looking really smart, with shoes shined, hair brushed and poppy in place as we were off to the Bruton Remembrance Day parade.
On arriving at King's Bruton, it was lovely to be welcomed by familiar faces - old Hazlegrovians - and to catch up with all the things they were up to. We fell into our positions and then we were off, marching in time to the band. It was moving to be with a large group of people, marching and remembering those who have died in service of our country. We ended up in the square by the church and took part in the prayers, listened to the band- well done Miss Rudd on percussion- and after the silence, listened to the names of those from Bruton who had died in war. Then Georgia and Robert laid a wreath at the memorial and it was back home to Hazlegrove.
After we had got changed there was not much time until lunch. Most children got involved with the Hazlegrove World records. Lots of different activities, all of which someone holds a world record for. The aim was to try and beat these records, or at least make a Hazlegrove record or have lots of fun trying. Anyone for 'Most socks put on one foot in 30 seconds'? World record: 26 Hazlegrove record: 12, well done Marcus! Football keepy-uppies was won very impressively by Jaime with 101, Abdullahi did some very impressive hula-hooping and Mr Lilford got very competitive with the tallest Lego zig-zag tower: world record: 28 bricks, Mr L: 21! One of the most amusing records was 'Most T-shirts put on in two minutes' won admirably by James with 17. Lots of people looking ended up looking like sumo-wrestlers!
Then it was lunch: delicious lamb followed by treacle pudding. Afterwards, Miss Sayles told us how the afternoon with a real life RECORD PRODUCER was going to work. The children had already decided on songs, mainly Christmassy or pop songs and took it in turns to go to the music room, decked out as a studio with proper recording microphones and earphones and all sorts of other technical equipment. Miss Sayles' dog Tirin was there too to add to the fun and to enjoy the music. Backing track decided on, lyrics projected and they were off! We are all waiting excitedly for the fruits of their labours, when each child will receive a CD with their recorded song. How exciting! Thank you Miss Sayles!
Whilst this was going on, all sorts of other activities were happening as well. Badminton, hockey, football, dancing, Miss Richardson's amazing race/treasure hunt, tractor games, pool, board games- risk was very poplular this weekend - and of course the inevitable and much loved scooters, bikes and ripsticks. Special mention to Isaac B who was a great help clearing up. Finally it was time for a swim and then letter writing before supper. All in all a really super weekend.
