Breakdancing, board games, nerf gun battles and more...
It was yet another very busy weekend for our boarders at Hazlegrove commencing with the Year 8’s travelling to the Bath Theatre Royal to watch a production of Lord of the Flies on Saturday night. It was a most spectacular production and all the talk at the breakfast table on Sunday morning was of nothing else but the amazing performances from a young cast, and the impressive set design.
After a scrumptious breakfast we assembled for chapel and had a wonderful service taken by Mr.Beverley about the Shepherd and his lost sheep. Once letter writing was completed the morning activities got under way with Mrs.Fawbert opening up the music school for all to come and play and tinker with the instruments; our recently opened Boarders Common Room came to the fore and Mrs Robertson held a board game bonanza alongside the building blocks and pool table which has become the place to be since the start of term.
Over in the Sports Hall the barricades were up as a huge Nerf Gun battle got under way with Mr.Robertson and Mr.Lilford taking cover under the gym mats!! Several “scenarios” were acted out, the most popular being, “Guard the VIP” in which the unarmed innocent had to get to the other side of the hall without being hit. If he was hit then it was game over. There was some spectacular Commando dives and lunatic lunges into enemy territory as each team tried desperately to outdo the other. Extra bullets were awarded for bravery and teamwork in the face of the battle.
Next door, Miss Fenwick was pumping up the volume with an uber cool Zumba session in the theatre. This was an extremely popular activity with many of the children getting their heart rate going in spectacular fashion, jumping and jiving to ecstatic numbers such as “Hey, Mr.Fox”! This was an excellent prelude to the afternoon activities.
Lunch was yet another superlative effort from our super hero kitchen staff; sumptuous Roast Beef that you would struggle to taste better in any Sunday lunch pub. The children were most appreciative and Henry our chef was given a rousing thank you.
After lunch the main course for the day started in the Sports Hall. The children were split into 2 groups and given some lessons in breakdancing by our special Polish teacher, “Pesh” who busted out some pretty awesome moves, including spinning on his head!!! The children learnt some fantastic balancing and performing skills and then performed to one another. Some of the stances and moves were fairly challenging but in that typical Hazlegrove way, it was lovely to see so many of the children helping each other and encouraging each other with their progress.
Late afternoon consisted of a nice cooling swim to warm down after the days’ exertions followed by yet another wonderous tea and the obligatory winter pastime of Dover Patrol. All in all, it was a very active and busy weekend.
