A Talk from Sophie Pavelle to Years 6 and 7
Year 6 and 7 were lucky enough to receive a talk from award-winning author and science communicator Sophie Pavelle this term.
Sophie grew up in Devon, has a degree in Zoology and a Master’s in Science Communication. Our pupils learnt how, during her Master's, Sophie walked 300 miles in 22 days around Cornwall, documenting her journey and the wildlife she encountered. This eventually led her to write her book 'Forget Me Not' about her journey around Britian in search of ten animals and habitats threatened by climate change. Pupils were captivated by Sophie's tales and inspired to hear how they could combine science, technology and creativity into a fulfilling and impactful career. Sophie emphasised the importance of science in our ever-changing world, and how stories can be written to change our perception, influence us and at times confuse the truth. We were then treated to some previews of her much anticipated second book! Hopefully meeting Sophie may inspire the children to pursue a career presenting the next hit nature documentary, writing columns for newspapers, or using social media to spread awareness of the plight of animals around the world.
