Old Hazlegrovian Dr Matt Crowcombe and his Wonderful SOS Africa Project
It was a real pleasure to receive an update from Old Hazlegrovian, Dr Matt Crowcombe on the continuing success of his wonderful SOS Africa Project.
Matt founded SOS Africa in January 2003 when he was just 18 years old along with South African school teacher, Henry Matthews. Matt and Henry were dismayed by the poor standard of free schooling available to township children in South Africa. One night, over a bowl of jelly and ice-cream, they developed a plan to establish holistic education programmes to empower South Africa’s future generations through education. It all began by sponsoring the education and holistic support of a young boy from Mahikeng who had great potential but no access to good schooling. 21 years on, Matt and his family now live in the Western Cape overseeing the charity's thriving education projects. The primary role of SOS Africa is to provide holistic sponsorship to disadvantaged children who are unable to access good schooling.
We are delighted to extend our congratulations to Matt, his family and team for reaching their latest milestone, the rejuvenation of Gordons Bay Education Centre.
