A Summer Term of Music
What an exciting term we have ahead of us in Hazlegrove Music! Kicking off our summer performances in superb style are our Year 5s, who will be adding a couple of toe-tapping numbers to their play in Week 3. This is followed by the second of our two joint concerts with King’s School Bruton, taking place this term in KSB’s Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall on Friday 10 May at 7pm. This is not to be missed!
Not resting on our laurels, Monday 13 May is an opportunity for some of our junior instrumentalists to gain new skills and experiences, as we join children from other schools at the Bryanston Orchestral Day. The day ends with a short concert that features over 100 children, and is an event that our more experienced children look forward to repeating again and again, as they move through the school.
The Summer term is, of course, our chance to celebrate some of these more experienced musicians, in our Year 8 Music and Creative Arts Showcase. Held this year on Friday 17 May at 6.30pm, it will feature every child in the year group, with an opportunity for viewing Art and DT work during a drinks reception, before all are involved in a short concert in the theatre. We are looking forward to supporting these super children enormously.
Staying with Year 8, we also have what is perhaps the most exciting part of the term to look forward to – the Year 8 Production. Rehearsals will run from 8.30am-5.45pm for the duration of Weeks 8 and 9, with performances at 7pm on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 June. Following a well-earned break for our leavers in Cornwall, we come together again on Thursday 4 July at 4.30pm for our Leavers’ Service, to which all Year 8 parents are warmly invited.
Key events aside, we run our informal Friday concerts as usual, starting with our first on Friday 26 April and ending with our final concert of the year on Friday 29 June. For information, many of our boarders will perform at 3pm on Friday 24 May, before they leave for Half Term, and our wonderful Lower School will be celebrated in their very own concert on Friday 14 June at the new time of 2.30pm.
We finish in style with speech day performances for both the Pre-Prep (featuring our Lower School Dolphin Choir) and the Prep School. There is so much to celebrate, so please do come and support our hard-working and inspirational Hazlegrove musicians in a wonderful display of all the progress they have made this year!
