Hazlegrove Inter House Singing Competition
The entire Hazlegrove community was left spellbound after Thursday’s inaugural House Song Competition.
Led by Heads of House and supported by House staff, Dover, Lyon, Norton and Tremlett children produced a wonderfully eclectic range of inspiring songs, singing with enormous enthusiasm in a universal display of House pride.
Each House showed its character in imaginative and impressive ways. Dover entertained the audience with a brief sketch between Aladdin (Will R) and Jasmine (Nella P), before producing an emotive rendition of A Whole New World from Disney’s Aladdin. Lyon had us all yearning for the sultry weather and sunshine of mid-summer, singing Ziggy Marley’s reggae twist on What a Wonderful World with characteristic style and joy. All were astonished by Tremlett’s attention to detail and inventive use of their own “eco and sustainability” lyrics to the rocking We Didn’t Start the Fire. What an impressive performance!
Mr Marshfield – the Director of Music from King’s Bruton – had an incredibly tough job choosing the overall winner. However, it was Norton who narrowly pipped the others to the post, performing an energetic and uplifting rendition of S Club 7’s Reach for the Sky, with an impressive addition of part singing.
Producing competition-ready songs in five short weeks was a baptism of fire for some, but everyone agreed that this year’s House Song Competition would be the first of many. There is no better way to emphasise just how firmly music sits at the very heart of Hazelgrove and what better way to bring us all together!
