Stories around the campfire for Year 4
On Friday night the Year 4s enjoyed the highly anticipated night of the year – the Year 4 camp out.
With excitement bubbling throughout the day, the children couldn’t wait for the camp out to begin. After lessons, we got changed into our camping clothes. Fuelled by a snack and drink, we began putting up our tents. This was easier said than done, as the wind added an extra challenge! But with some expert pegging, secure guy ropes and a little help from the Year 8s, the tents were all in place on the Lower School Lawn.
Mr Birch said that food always tastes better outside and our delicious supper was no exception. The children enjoyed working in groups to cook their food on the Trangia cookers, taking it in turns to carefully stir to ensure the bolognaise sauce was cooked through. We enjoyed this with a jacket potato, salad and a yummy piece of garlic bread.
The rest of the evening was spent playing games in the woods, singing songs and telling stories around the campfire. A highlight of the evening was toasting marshmallows and enjoying a s’more before brushing teeth and getting cosy in our tents.
After a good night’s sleep, the children were up bright and early to take their tents down and pack up camp!
Thank you to all the staff involved for making this wonderful evening possible for our Year 4 children.
