Lower School Get Stuck Into Maths Morning
On Monday morning this week all our eager Year 3s and 4s came to school dressed in their tracksuits and ready for a fun maths activity morning.
They were divided into 10 mixed ability teams and challenged to work their way through five very different maths contests. At the Estimation Agony station their estimating skills were quickly put to the test as they battled through 20 perplexing estimation puzzles. Next, they had to make sense of a beastly Crossnumber (a giant crossword but with maths questions) which tested them on all the maths concepts they have been working through so far this year. A super maths Treasure Hunt was their third challenge, which had them running around the whole school searching for all the elusive clues - and trying not to get lost! After this they were in the swimming pool area competing in the Wacky Water activity which focused on capacity and volume conundrums. The final competition was another outdoors event, Measuring Mayhem, which involved a series of tricky estimating and measuring puzzles, which certainly exhausted their last few grey cells.
All-in-all it was an extremely busy and chaotic morning for all our keen young mathematicians, and it was lovely to see and hear them having such fun, and really putting to the test all the maths skills that they have been working so hard on in their maths lessons.
