Prep art and dt

This week as part of the Scholarship Art Programme the pupils had a trip to the Holburne Museum in Bath.

The pupils began the day with a 2 hour life drawing workshop. We began with a series of two minute poses to capture the essence and flow of the model and the human form. From this starting point the poses increased in length enabling the pupils to look more closely at the form, focusing on structure and shape as well as highlights and shadows. The pupils used a variety of different materials including willow charcoal and ink, which encouraged them to loosen up their drawing and accept any mistakes as part of the artwork. All the pupils rose to the challenge (having never drawn at an easel for such a length of time) and created some incredible work.

Following the life drawing workshop the pupils were allowed to peruse the museum. All of them enjoyed the variety of work being shown from classics to bizarre mosaic sculptures. They spent the afternoon interpreting artworks from the gallery into their sketchbooks.
