Year 8 Music and Arts Showcase
Last Friday’s Year 8 Music and Arts Showcase left Hazlegrove staff and families feeling immensely proud of our Year 8 Leavers.
Greeted at the doors to the Dolphin building, in the glorious early summer sunshine, guests were offered drinks and some of Mr Sebastian’s legendary canapes before being guided by Year 8 children through a wonderful exhibition of their year’s work in Art and DT. Mr Baker and Mr Curran, superbly supported by Mr Gold, had pulled out all the stops, giving parents a real insight into the detailed and focussed teaching that Year 8 children have been lucky enough to experience this year. All were bowled over by the attention to detail and the wide variety of styles on display.
After a moment to enjoy the much-anticipated warmth in The Bearcroft courtyard, families and tutors were ushered into the theatre, where Year 8s entertained their audience with solos, duets and ensemble performances. Those of us who spend our lives in the Music Department know just how much time and effort goes into the development of a young musician. It was therefore with great pride that we watched our talented performers show the audience just what they have achieved during their time at Hazlegrove. Performances ranged from cello, drums and euphonium to singing, flute and piano, with a fantastic rendition of rock classics from the Year 8 Band, “Loud”, and a show-stopping end to the evening, as our entire Year 8 cohort took to the stage to sing One Direction’s “History”. It certainly was a night to remember.
