Two Superb Concerts Last Week for Hazlegrove
What a superb end to Eco Fest, with our sensational Festival Concert on Thursday, swiftly followed by our final Friday Concert on Friday!
As Mr Benbow said, the standard was incredibly high, and we challenge any of you to find a prep school where Year 5 children sing so tunefully, where a string quartet plays with such finesse and where there is such a myriad of instruments and talent on display.
Thursday evening opened to a packed theatre with our very own Hazlegrove Orchestra, growing ever bigger in number as the terms progress. As always, our Senior Strings, Flute Group, Wind Band and Guitar Ensemble were of an impressively high standard, and all enjoyed the impromptu workshop given by our young Hazlegroove percussion ensemble. Chapel Choir singers were delighted to perform in their first ever Festival Concert, giving audience members a taste of the upcoming Easter Service at Sherborne Abbey, whilst Hazlegrove Voices entertained with a fun-filled rendition of “Man in the Mirror”, accompanied by the staff rock band. As always, the current Year 8 Band did not disappoint, showing just what a success Hazlegrove’s Rock and Pop Programme has become, and leaving our audience prepped and ready for the final act of the night. All were amazed as every musician returned to the stage to give a very moving performance of “We Are the World” – the perfect end to a wonderful and very thought-provoking week.
Not resting on their laurels, many of these children returned to the theatre on Friday evening to perform in our final Friday Concert of the term. We always present these concerts as informal practice sessions in front of a supportive audience, everyone felt that these children had given their very best at the end of a busy term, and that their performances were almost too accomplished for such an informal setting. We were so proud of them all.
As ever, none of this would be possible without the support of such a dedicated music team. Mrs Sclater and the Hazlegrove children offer their heartfelt thanks to them all!
