Printing Press Magic for the Art Department
Mr Baker reports on the very positive impact that the new printing press is having on the work that the children produce in the Art Department...
The acquisition of a new printing press for the Art Department has opened up exciting new possibilities to make print-based work.
The press can be used for relief block printing, collagraphs and dry-point etching, as can be seen in these images. Recently, Art Club and Year 8 pupils have explored making etchings with inspiration coming from the landscape, natural forms and cakes!
Despite the messy nature of inking up their etched plate, pupils enjoyed getting to grips with the process and much satisfaction was had when revealing their print after manually running it through the press. There are infinite possibilities with printmaking and pupils of all abilities can have lots of fun with making images in this way. I look forward to putting the press to good use and seeing what creations the pupils come up with.
