What a wonderful term we have had so far in Music
Our concerts have been bursting with talent, many showcasing over 20 children, and displaying an exciting array of instruments and standards.
My instrumental staff and I have been so impressed by the dedication shown by so many of these children. It has been inspiring to see the results of our musicians’ hard work, and the strength and resilience shown by all, particularly when nerves have taken hold. Parents and children are always told that our informal concerts are an opportunity to practice in front of an audience, rather than present a polished performance, but every child has exceeded expectations. We are so proud of them!
It was with great excitement that many of our musicians were able to perform alongside older pupils at King’s Bruton in our recent Joint Concert. This biannual event (with our second opportunity to perform at King’s Bruton in the Summer Term) showed a sample of our ensembles, from orchestra and Year 8 Band to Senior Strings. Our Hazlegrove musicians certainly showed their worth and all enjoyed the fantastic opportunity to play in more advanced groups.
Our Friends’ Fireworks Evening provided another superb opportunity to perform in front of a larger audience, with our sensational Year 8 rock band (“Lowd”) wowing the crowds with Nirvana and Lennon favourites. This group is certainly one to watch!
Singing has continued in earnest this term, as an integral part of the school week. Our choirs have been extremely busy learning their songs and carols, and this year’s Wells Cathedral service promises to be another magical event.
Our Christmas celebrations begin today (Friday 1st December) with an evening of festive fun. Starting with carols in the Pre-Prep, we move on to an impressively large Friday concert, and end with an exciting Instrumental Staff Concert in front of boarders and Hazlegrove families.
If our music-making inspires you to get involved, do join us for our annual Carols with the Orchestra on Tuesday 12 December at 6.30pm. Dust off your instrument and join the orchestra, or simply come along and sing with the masses, before enjoying a festive drink and mince pie in the Sports Hall. It is all excellent practice as we prepare to raise the roof at Wells again this Christmas.
