The Year 8 Arts and Music Showcase
This Summer Term’s Year 8 Arts and Music Showcase showed just how much has been achieved by our Year 8s during their time at Hazlegrove. Our Art, Design Technology and Music department heads all came together to create a wonderful evening for parents and staff to enjoy.
The evening began with a tour to see the incredible displays in our Design Technology and Art classrooms. Head of Art, Mr Joel Baker said, “The artwork exhibited on Friday showcased the breadth and depth of creative talent amongst our Year 8 pupils. Much of the work on display followed the theme of 'still life' with pupils demonstrating their skills in drawing, collage and printmaking. It was wonderful to show the highly accomplished work of our Art scholars and give them the recognition they deserve. The portfolios of Lottie B, Amelie C, Yeva C, Tilly E and Eileen S were the result of nearly two years of commitment and hard work. Parents, pupils and staff marvelled at their ideas, originality and personal expression through their use of a diverse range of mediums and techniques.”
Head of Design and Technology, Mr Paul Curran went on to say, “Year 8 have worked so hard during the three projects they have undertaken this year. The Keepsake Box, Nodding Dog message taker and the final graphics packaging exercise gave the pupils an invaluable range of skills, techniques, and experience that they can take with them to their senior school and on to GCSE subjects.”
The fantastic Year 8 concert closed the Showcase with some astonishing musical renditions and pieces. Head of Music, Mrs Nicola Sclater was thrilled with all the performances and said, “From solos performed by our specialist musicians to collaborative projects, duets, bands and of course our fabulous Year 8 group choir, the event embodied our department ethos that music is for all. Pieces ranged from Chopin to Coldplay, and Einaudi to Harry Styles, not forgetting a set from one of our resident Year 8 DJs, in a true reflection of the wide variety of music taught to Hazlegrove pupils. The concert was a wonderful opportunity for talents to be displayed to both parents and peers, giving us all a glimpse of what can be expected in the Year 8 Production next month. You’re in for a treat!”
We would like to thank everyone who attended and helped us is celebrating the phenomenal work and effort by our Year 8s. We are hugely proud of their achievements and what they will go on to create.
