Year 4 Take an In-Depth Look at Egyptian Canopic Jars!
As part of their broader study of the Egyptians, 4K and 4M have been getting creative in the Art room by looking at canopic jars and cartouches.
These fascinating objects would often be designed with distinctive stoppers and intricately decorated, with hieroglyphics also carved into the main body of the jar. Pupils have discovered that canopic jars would either be carved out of limestone or wood, or made out of clay. The children have enjoyed practising drawing these jars and have explored watercolour to give their piece depth, texture and detail. They are really looking forward to modelling their own canopic jar out of clay which will then be decorated to give them a distinctive finish!
