Year 5 Enjoyed A Day At The Tank Musuem
On a rainy Tuesday, the Year 5s set off to Bovington Museum where we were treated to an extravaganza of WW1-related experiences.
The lovely staff and volunteers of the museum were ready to greet us as soon as the museum opened. We were soon split into three groups and then enjoyed a carousel of workshops related to the topics we have been learning this term.
We had Tommy in the Trenches inside a reconstructed trench, complete with a moving projected war horizon and sound effects! We even got to try on uniforms, hold a Lee Enfield rifle and dodge machine gun bullets on our way to the German trenches!
The second workshop was set inside an authentic WW1 tank where we learned what conditions were like inside a tank during the war. A wonderful experience, but not for anyone claustrophobic, but nevertheless a real treat that is not available to the general public.
Lastly, we had a War Horse workshop where we learned about all the noble steeds and beasts of burden who contributed to the war effort. The last part of the day was spent exploring the rest of the museum which has plenty of amazing things on offer! A wonderful day; thanks to the museum staff and our fabulous Y5 tutors, gappies and drivers for all of their help!
