Liberalia Celebrations 2022
On Monday, we welcomed back 100 Old Hazlegrovians-Year 8 Leavers in 2015, 2016, 2017.
It was a wonderful evening, full of laughter and the sharing of stories about their time here.
The event is a Hazlegrovian tradition, it is called ‘Liberalia’ a Roman festival celebrating the coming of age. It happens each year and is for those who are about to complete their time at their senior school. With the pandemic we were not able to host it over the last two years. So, this year we had three years in one!
For many this was the first time back since leaving and it was a chance to meet up with old friends, share tales with their former teachers about what they actually got up to here and to re-visit old haunts. For staff, it was fascinating to find out what they have been doing ‘since the cattle grid’- travel, university, exciting plans for the rest of their lives.
There was a déjà vu moment, before the OHs toured the School towards the end of the evening. A photograph was taken of everybody in front of the Main House. Today a similar photo, in the same place, was taken of our current Leavers. In time honoured tradition, getting everyone in the same place, facing the same way at the same time was a challenge!
We wish all our Old Hazlegrovians a wonderful summer.
