Year 5 Present: the Christmas Truce
“It’s been 13 long, cold weeks; 13 dark mornings, hungry and fearful, following orders for a reason never fully explained. 13 weeks waking and never quite knowing which of our friends will have survived the night. But we remain. And today is Christmas. It’s 25th December 1914 and today there was a ceasefire. We must document it, so that the generations that come after us know our pain, our suffering but most importantly, know the joy that we snatched from the clutches of terror.”
Year 5 present: THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE
As a culmination of their topic on WW1, Year 5 embarked on a mission to film the day that surprised the world in 1914. They put themselves into the shoes of those soldiers fighting in the trenches, picking key moments to film and discussing the best positions, props and costumes to use to add touches of authenticity. They are all very proud of the end result.
