Year 7 Discuss the Nature of Heroism and Role Models
The children thought about their heroes and role models, and contrasted society’s obsession with fame, fortune and celebrity with the day to day heroism of unsung members of the community doing vital work to help others.
They discussed who the heroes in the play were; whether there were indeed any, and if so, how their heroism manifested itself. As Stanhope says: “hero worship is a fine thing, so long as the hero remains a hero.” They wondered if Jimmy Raleigh would still be alive if he had never hero-worshipped Stanhope in the first place.
