Year 3 Visit New Barn To Discover All Things Roman
What a treat to step back in time and visit a real Roman settlement.
We were greeted by Adamus – a native Celt who was busy preparing to defend his home with the help of Year 3, against the Roman invasion. Adamus showed us his home and shared stories of how different life was in those times. We learnt that the walls were made from mixing cow dung with chalk and how the Roman’s had under floor heating!
We foraged around to find out how to make medicine using grasses, mixing it together with a pestle and mortar. This was called a poultice and was used to stop infections, just like a modern-day plaster! We worked hard to churn milk to make butter, we persevered and were successful! Learning how to grind corn was really fascinating and carving onto chalk was also great fun.
Our day was incredibly special and one we will never forget.
