Dancing Through The Decades -Danceathon

Our Year 8 are finishing their time at Hazlegrove with yet another wonderful money-raising idea and are running a 12-hour Danceathon on Monday 5 July.

Dancing their way through the decades from the 1950s to the present day, from 7.30 am to 7.30 pm, the rest of the school will join them in small groups on a rota basis and learn some ‘signature’ dances from some of those decades along the way.

The children want to raise as much money as possible in support of Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes and the mental health charity Mind.

https://www.bloodbikes.org.uk/ The Nationwide Association of Bloodbikes is an umbrella organization which represents the many local blood bike groups across the country, all charities. In the South West, that covers, for example, Yeovil Freewheelers and South West Blood Bikes although there are other excellent independent smaller bloodbike groups. These are all volunteers motorbikers who provide a rapid response to calls day and night to transport urgent blood, platelets, human donor milk, surgical samples, and medications faster than other transport can get there, and to help replenish Air Ambulances with ‘Blood On Board’. They generally make over 100,000 runs a year, but this has increased hugely during the pandemic. As they say, ‘One day, we may well have the ride of your life….’

Their aim is not to give up, until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. Many of our children have become much more aware of their own and others’ mental health issues since the pandemic and are wise beyond their years about the need to look after this aspect of their health as much as any other.
