Hazlegrove Create Human Map of Australia To Raise Money
Children from Nursery to Year 8 formed a human map of Australia and sang Waltzing Matilda in a fund-raising mission for the Australian Bushfire Appeal through the WWF.
The younger children were invited to help raise money by wearing a fluffy koala onesie or other fluffy clothes and donate money all of which will go to The Australian Bushfire Appeal through the WWF. The entire school then created a human map of Australia in which they sang Waltzing Matilda to show support.
The idea grew from a request by two pupils, Amelia H in Year 5 and Elise R, a Year 1 pupil. The children were so moved by what they had seen on the news reports that they asked whether the school could raise money to support the animals affected.
Head of Pre-Prep, Miss Strugnell said, ‘I was so impressed with the children’s thoughtfulness and proactive thinking and, with statistics such as 95% of Australian Koalas being destroyed in the bushfires, we fully agreed that we should do something to help. The whole school got behind the idea, our staff and children in the Pre-Prep all dressed in onesies and then joined the rest of the school in the map of Australia to sing Waltzing Matilda’.
