Storm Ciara didn’t put a stop to the boarders enjoying themselves this weekend!
Miss Rudd reports on an action packed weekend for our boarders:
Following a thought-provoking Chapel from Mr Beverly, the Juniors headed off to Ready2Climb, Yeovil, where they were faced with ten different climbing walls, a rope climb, tyre climb, cargo nets, scramble wall and the infamous ‘Stairway to Heaven’. The children held their composure and encouraged each other to the highest points; there was plenty of action for everyone.
Meanwhile, back at Hazlegrove, the Seniors enjoyed a more relaxed morning. The girls’ common room was transformed into a pampering salon where the children were able to create homemade fruit face masks of their own concoctions, whilst relaxing with the foot spa and chilled music. The sports hall saw a more active slant, where Mr Brown was on hand to run a gymnastics session and Mr Holden to lead some ball sports. The squash courts were busy, the ICT room had a few visitors for a session and the art room was home to several children for the morning whilst they crafted quill creations and button art. We all reconvened for a delicious turkey lunch and oozing sticky toffee pudding, with extra toffee sauce!
After a rest period to read and reflect, the children then set about their afternoon activities. Again, Mr Brown was in action leading gymnastics, whilst the swimming pool was opened for those who wished to enjoy a free swim. The cookery room saw a ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ style challenge: the children were given five key ingredients to work with (the base of which was filo pastry), and then an hour to plan, create, bake and display their dishes. Needless to say, Mr Froggatt, Mr Head and Mr Schreiber enjoyed judging the entries later at supper. Well done to Joel, Jarred and Jeremiah for their fruit roll and Aerin and Eva for their chocolate and strawberry tarts which were chosen as joint overall winners. The rugby was on to see Italy score more points than England had managed to scrabble last week against a strong French side. Also, the lego room was a favourite for some of the children.
A jam doughnut and juice was a welcome treat mid afternoon before everyone hunkered down for a film. A Thai chicken supper topped the day off beautifully before everyone headed back to the house for a relax and much needed bedtime.
