Stephen Marquiss Hazlegrove Piano Teacher on BBC Radio 3
Hazlegrove piano teacher, Stephen Marquiss, will feature in the forthcoming BBC Radio 3 series, The Essay: Healing Musicians.
Each episode comprises an interview with a musician who has experienced life-changing injury, beginning with cellist, Julian Lloyd Webber, on Monday 14 October. In Episode 2 on Tuesday 15 October at 21.45 - and afterwards on BBC Sounds - Stephen will talk to writer and cellist, Dr Kate Kennedy, about his decline at music school due to repetitive strain injury and the groundbreaking solutions he devised. Stephen's 25-year quest to formulate a holistic alternative to traditional exercises resulted in Piano Portals, Stephen's online adult school for technique. Stephen explains, 'Piano Portals challenges the origins and prevalence of received opinion on technique and provides an enriching, effective alternative framework for fluent, expressive playing without excess tension.'
