Prep About

This Thursday was World Mental Health Day, and Hazlegrove embraced the opportunity to highlight to the children some of the different ways we can enhance our positive wellbeing.

We started the day with Congers, where the well known benefit of singing was enjoyed by the Prep School children. Mrs Spilsbury created foodle-doodle characters in Food Tech, with the ‘Peas Not War’ cartoon created by a Year 5 pupil being a highlight. The Lower School children made yellow friendship bracelets, following the theme of ‘Hello Yellow’ from the charity Young Minds as well as some wonderful yellow lanyards supporting positive and happy messages.

Doodling for positive mental health was their other theme this year and the Fitzjames hub was a hive of doodle activity during breaktimes. Mrs Thomas showed the children different styles of abstract pattern doodling, and Mr Baker turned his hand to modelling and drawing cartoon characters. The Upper School chidlren have all been trying out doodling in their PSHE lessons this week to see if this is an activity that brings calm and positivity for them, and all of the children have been inspired by the work of The Doodle Boy, particularly his pizza characters. Let's hope we have sowed some seeds for our children of things they can do if they are ever in need of a positive boost or just a way to relax.
