An Exciting New Eco Partnership for the School!
It's Eco Fest week at Hazlegrove Prep School and what better way to mark it than a collaboration with Higher Farm in Castle Cary where they practice sustainable farming.
Higher Farm, led by brothers Matteo and Giacomo Grasso and colleague Basil Gibson is launching an exciting new kitchen garden project with Hazlegrove and, in order to raise funds, the team is embarking on an incredible challenge of running three marathons -barefoot! – on the Jurassic Coast. The challenge takes place on 22, 23 and 24 March and details of their crowdfunding page can be found here: Crowdfunding to plant kitchen gardens in a local school, by running three marathons barefoot on JustGiving
Matteo said, ‘Our project is focused on supporting a future for local, natural and accessible food. Our vision with this fundraiser is to set up a kitchen garden at Hazlegrove Prep, to provide nutritious, organic and sustainable food, and to incorporate the pupils, offering an educational experience growing and learning about food. We are contributing our team of farmers to manage and implement the gardens, and the fundraiser will fund the plants, tools, materials and any additional labour if needed. We are partnering with Hazlegrove Prep and if we can raise more funds, we will be able to work with more schools.’ Speaking to BBC Somerset, Matteo said, ‘I started experimenting barefoot around the farm and thought maybe I can use this to make my challenge a bit more challenging’.
Mr Benbow said, ‘We are so excited to be working with Matteo, Giacomo and Basil and their vision to increase localisation of food whilst supporting local economies and making good food accessible to everyone sits perfectly with our aim of Eco Fest’.
The group is aiming to raise £8,000. If you would like to contribute, please take a look at the fundraising page here: Crowdfunding to plant kitchen gardens in a local school, by running three marathons barefoot on JustGiving
