Year 4 Visit the Rural Life Museum
Year 4 explored the ‘Rural Life Museum’ in Glastonbury on Friday, for their Victorian topic.
The children became History Detectives, handling Victorian artefacts and deciding what they were used for. Telephones, carpet beaters and butter churns, were all looked at and handled with awe! Each class explored the museum, following a trail that had been prepared for them, which allowed them to understand what life was like for rural Victorians in Somerset. They even discovered there were workhouses close to Hazlegrove. When one class was making their way around the trail, the other class learnt how to make drop scones, in a Victorian working kitchen. They also learnt a Victorian craft, rag rug making. Each child came away with a small sample, which they will continue to complete as the term goes on. It certainly was a jam-packed trip, where they all learnt lots and had fun and that will reinforce our learning in the class.
