Hazlegrove Rugby and Hockey Autumn Term Summary
Sport has a wonderful way of uniting communities. Pulling together as a team to achieve great things is key. The school values of integrity, kindness, grace, courage, generosity, and respect are all on full show every time a Hazlegrovian steps onto the sports pitch.
There is always a buzz around the school on match days and what happens on the pitch is only part of the whole experience. Sharing stories over match tea, reliving key moments, recounting how goals were scored, and meeting friends from other schools, all make these occasions so special.
Hockey
This has been a term of weather extremes – back in September we were playing hockey in the searing heat and then just last week we had to cancel fixtures due to frozen pitches! We have enjoyed a hugely successful term, with all of the Hazlegrove girls from Year 3 to Year 8 representing the school. The passion and determination that is demonstrated in our Games lessons means that huge progress has been made across the term. Whether it be someone who has never picked up a stick before, or those who are playing at a more elite level, the dedication that has been shown by all is hugely commendable. Striving to be the very best you can, and making the most of every training session and opportunity can be so rewarding.
We have had six girls and six boys selected for the Somerset County teams and we wish them well as they keep playing into next term.
Overall, an amazing term – roll on the netball term, as we hand the hockey baton on to the boys……….
Rugby
This rugby term has seen all the boys from Year 3 to Year 8 work on developing their rugby skills. They have enjoyed some hard-fought matches against local schools and should be proud of all their efforts. The endeavour required to be a team player helps reinforce our school values. Well done to all the teams and thank you to all the coaches who have helped make it such a memorable season. A special mention must go to our 1st team, who since pulling on their new team strip have not lost a fixture. They have led by example, and we look forward to hearing how they progress in this sport at their respective senior schools next year. The recent wet weather has led to some very muddy conditions, and I know that the school washing machines will be breathing a sigh of relief as we head into the hockey season.
