Middle School Maths Morning
On Monday, our eager Year 5 and 6 mathematicians arrived, at the start of the day, in their PE kits all extremely keen to dive straight into the Middle School Maths Morning.
This is a maths activity morning aimed at emphasizing the real-world relevance of all the concepts they have been learning in their maths lessons. The children were divided into ten mixed-ability teams (all named after famous mathematicians) and they spent the whole morning moving between five very different maths stations. They tested their gambling skills, and their luck, at the Probability Fair, they tried to reach the highest possible total in the Hula Hoop Challenge, they learnt all about capacity and volume at the Capacity Chaos station beside the swimming pool. They raced around the school searching for clues on the maths Treasure Hunt, and finally, they went Head-to-Head against Mr Potato Head in the monstrous maths quiz.
It was a really super morning of fun maths, and it was lovely to see how the children rose to each new challenge and did their very best, working so well together in their teams.
It was team Faraday who won with a very impressive score of 48 out of 50.
Well done Mega Mathematicians – super work.
