Year 4 Experienced a Day in the Life of a Victorian Child
After our visit to the Rural Life Museum, the children were inspired to find out what life was like for a Victorian child.
The children were transported to their own Victorian school, where girls and boys were kept separate. The children learnt by repeating facts after the teacher, handwriting was taught with a quill and that you always had to sit with a straight back and schooling finished at the age of 10! In the afternoon, the children were able to ‘curiously’ explore our own museum and play history detectives, as well as completing some Victorian crafts. I think the children decided that they wouldn’t like to go to an actual Victorian school!#
