Our Middle School Artists Attended a Workshop At Sherborne School!
Fourteen Year 5 and 6 pupils visited Sherborne School on Tuesday to take part in an all-day Art Workshop led by Sherborne's Director of Art, Matt Bone and his team.
Pupils enjoyed a very busy day during which they were introduced to several creative processes in one of the specialist Art rooms as well as touring the school and enjoying a lovely lunch!
We began by creating imaginative drawings of insects by combining several different body parts of creatures from the visual resources provided. We then each set about creating a multicolour monoprint using the drawing as a starting point. Pupils learned how different tools and mediums will create different marks and textures, and the results were excellent. The second process involved translating the original bug drawing into a vibrant collage using an exciting range of patterned papers. Pupils were so engaged by this activity and were encouraged to keep developing and layering up the colours and patterns to make them fun and vibrant.
After a delicious lunch that was finished off with the consumption of several servings of jelly, we were guided around the fascinating and historic grounds of the school. Back in the Art room for the final session, we set about translating our 2D work into a 3D ceramic piece. Each pupil was given a pre-prepared clay tile and they proceeded to make their bug using hand modelling and attaching techniques. This was the most calming and grounding session of the day, and the children did themselves proud by making some seriously impressive work.
We would like to thank Matt Bone and his fantastic team at Sherborne for providing our pupils with such a stimulating and rewarding creative experience! I look forward to displaying the work once we have it back with us in school.
