The Year 7 Production "Night at the Opera' Was a Great Success!

What a term it has been for the Year 7s. In September we embarked on a journey of learning all about Opera and melodramatic theatre.

Thanks to the wonderful writing of Mr Edwards the class were taken to different realms, spanning hundreds of years and meeting characters we know and love. Year 7 have worked very hard in a short space of time to develop and explore well-known and loved stories, all leading to the final performance that was witnessed by the responsive audiences last week.

The children’s unwavering efforts, particularly in the final few weeks, paid off with a truly brilliant production full of laughter, creativity, imagination, and teamwork.  It never fails to impress me how all elements of theatre pull together from Mrs Mahony’s stunning costumes to Mr Shaw’s prop mastery. As my first performance at Hazlegrove it will certainly be one I won’t forget.

A particular mention should go to those children who stepped in at the last minute and performed roles for those who were unfortunately unwell and unable to go on. This being both the beauty and pain of live theatre! It has been so heart-warming to see all the children participate in last week’s show, a sight I haven’t seen in my career before. The opportunities and skills these types of productions bring are too countless to name and the children get to spend time working and creating together to produce something of which they can be truly proud.

I know I am so proud of all they have achieved in this short space of time and I look forward to them using this experience as inspiration when they start creating their own plays in Drama in the forthcoming term.
