Success All Round At The Exmoor Challenge
On Saturday 30th April, sixteen intrepid Year 7 pupils laced up their walking boots to take part in this year’s Exmoor Challenge.
We stayed overnight at school on Friday evening and prepared a delicious pizza supper, then enjoyed some forest games and a campfire, before talking tactics and getting a good night’s sleep. On Saturday morning we headed to Dulverton, and split into 4 teams of four to compete in the challenge – a sixteen mile unaccompanied hike across Exmoor during which the children needed to hit checkpoints at just the right time. Points were deducted for arriving a minute early or late, so planning and timings were crucial.
On the day, conditions were perfect with great weather and a fantastic atmosphere up on the moor with lots of parent support.
The teams did amazingly well, all finishing in superb time and in buoyant spirits:
Our boys team came in 2nd in a field of 23
Our girls team came in 2nd in a field of 24
Our mixed teams came in 3rd and 5th in a field of 53
Incredibly results all round. Well done Hazlegrove, for doing so well and being fantastic company all weekend!
Also thank you to Mr Shaw, Mrs Cobb and Mrs Spilsbury for supporting and being such good sports.
