Junior Maths Challenge
On Thursday this week our eager Year 7 and 8 (and 6 set 1) mathematicians were tested to the extreme on the Junior Maths Challenge.
This is a tricky national maths competition aimed at promoting problem solving skills. The children faced twenty-five multiple choice maths puzzles covering an extremely wide range of maths topics. Each of the problems takes a core mathematical skill and presents the children with a puzzle that requires both logic and perseverance to solve. To get a good score on this challenge these young mathematicians need to be willing to take a few risks, experiment and adapt their methods, as they progress, which is such a vital skill for them to learn.
I was extremely impressed with how sensibly the children prepared for, and battled through, this gruelling 60-minute marathon of maths. I am sure that they have all done their very best and they can be proud of what they have achieved.
