Fun In-Weekend For Boarders
This weekend has felt like boarding life at its best – like a big family, enjoying every corner of Hazlegrove. From golf, tennis and flower pressing to beekeeping and inflatable disco slides, there was quite literally something for everyone!
We started the day in the usual way with a delicious full English breakfast. After letter writing and chapel, it was time for the myriad of activities to start. It was such a pleasure walking around with the children, listening to them excitedly deciding on what to do next. The fields were busy with the golf course in use, cricket net sessions, dog walking and even a bike safari. In the food tech room, Miss Young was baking brownies and, testing their culinary skills in the woods, Mr Froggatt was teaching the children how to make their own fire and cook sausages. Some of the Year 8’s took the opportunity to revise in the library in the morning while Oli and Alex worked marvels in the Hazlegrove farm, getting the soil turned over to plant seedlings. The farm has also welcomed new baby guinea pigs which were spoilt for attention and cuddles!
We all came together at lunchtime for a Sunday roast before resting and reading out on the front lawn. The boarders then moved on to another wonderful session of activities and opportunities to try things that are completely new to them, not least target shooting with floating targets and, for some, go-karting (this pedal GO, this pedal STOP, have a go!).
A personal highlight was watching Mr Bartlett’s aptly named ‘water mania’ which turned into an epic water balloon battle. The wetter the better! In the sunshine that was just what was called for and very funny to watch from the sidelines.
To wrap up the day, we ended with a visit from an ice cream van. Mr Forbes made sure the van’s music was blaring for full effect! The boarders then settled in to relax and watch a film in the afternoon.
Having everyone back together after the Easter break with space to roam because of the lovely sunny weather has just made it one of those really special weekends. A cracking in-weekend to kick off the Summer term and happy memories to take into the coming week.
