Mrs Cobb Talks About The Exciting Launch Of The Upper School’s #StrongerTogether Initiative
The original Olympic motto is made up of three Latin words : Citius - Altius - Fortius. These words mean Faster - Higher - Stronger.
On the 20th of July 2021, the Session of the International Olympic Committee approved a change in the Olympic motto that recognises the unifying power of sport and the importance of solidarity. The change adds the word “together” after an en dash to “Faster, Higher, Stronger”. The new Olympic motto now reads in Latin “Citius, Altius, Fortius - Communiter” and “Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together” in English.
We shared an Upper School assembly when we talked about #Strongertogether and how as a community we can achieve more by working and coming together. We talked about the ideal conditions for us as individuals to flourish – love, warmth, support, care, kindness – all of the school values and how we can all work with each other and together to achieve more and make a difference to the HZG community.
We talked about ideal conditions for growth and development and how they are similar to plants and animals –
Warmth, care, attention, ideal conditions – all of the Upper School have planted a sunflower and we are growing these – hopefully to plant out around the school in planters and in the school farm. They are currently in tutor rooms being cared for by everyone – watering and watching – some groups can already see green! Different groups have tried different tactics – from added heat – radiators, cling film to keep moisture in….. it has become competitive – who will grow the tallest sunflower……
We have started work in the farm – digging beds, meeting the head groundsman to talk about developing the raised beds, relaying the membranes between beds to keep weeds away and having some compost delivered. Cleaning out the compost bins ready to start again….
We have cleaned out the greenhouse, swept it out, tidied and started planting – so far we have sweetcorn and peas in small pots growing.
Other seeds the children have asked for that are waiting to be planted next week in the greenhouse – tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers.
Then we need to keep going on preparation of beds ready to plant out after Easter – lettuce, carrots, spinach….
They have grand plans and last week we had over 25 children attend the sessions during the week.
We have 20 fertilised eggs that are in the incubator – went in during the assembly – ideal conditions – humidity, warmth and they will grow and develop (like us) currently very fragile and need love but have huge potential to each be something truly special – so true for all children….
They have just over a week to go – before they hatch – a mix of bantams and chickens. Fingers crossed…..
