Calling All Silver Stories Listeners!
Here at Hazlegrove we have teamed up with the wonderful charity Silver Stories to launch a new club.
Children (known as Silver Readers) telephone a Silver Listener every week and then read a short story or poem to them. Wonderfully simple but with the most incredibly positive impact for both Silver Listeners and Silver Readers. This not only helps the children to become more confident in their reading skills but also links our children to the older members of our communities and helps diminish their chances of feeling isolated and lonely.
Miss Aggett who has helped team up with this brilliant charity has said 'I am so delighted that Hazlegrove has become a Silver Stories school, as a teacher I know first-hand the joy a good story can bring and the power of a chat with one of our amazing pupils to brighten your day! I also passionately believe the older generation have so much to offer and that no one should feel isolated and alone through lack of contact. Silver stories pairs up these two powerful generations to build friendships, share stories, boost reading confidence and end isolation. If you know of anyone who would appreciate a weekly call and like to become a 'Silver Listener' please do get in touch.'
Georgia S, a Silver reader said, 'I know sometimes my Granny gets lonely and I love to chat so it will be fun to make friends across a different generation and maybe find things we have in common.'
If you are interested and would like to become a Silver Listener, please contact reception on 01963 440314.
