Old Hazlegrovian finishes row across Atlantic in 40 days
Old Hazlegrovian, Alex Soskin, along with teammates Harry Hearn, Ed Batchelor and Tom Phillips have completed the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge dubbed ‘the world’s toughest row’ in 40 days, 6 hours and 35 minutes.
The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is an endurance race across one of the world’s most dangerous oceans. The race takes competitors more than 3,000 miles west from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands, to Nelson’s Dockyard English Harbour in Antigua & Barbuda.
The team of four rowed two hours on, two hours off in rotation. They rowed for MIND and the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation, an international NGO dedicated to serving the world’s oppressed and marginalised children. The aim is to raise significant funds which will be split evenly. With mental health more important than ever during the current lockdown, charities like MIND and the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation need vital extra support. So far they have raised over £84,000 and their fundraising page is still open.
We are incredibly proud of Soskin and his teammates for their immense achievement and wish them a good rest - and maybe a Christmas dinner!
