Five individuals and four relay teams qualify for the IAPS National Swimming Finals.

Yesterday we were given the results of all of the IAPS Swimming Regional Finals – you may remember that we held one at Hazlegrove on Tuesday 4 March.

Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic the National Finals, at the Olympic Pool in London, did not happen this year, however we were all very keen to know if Hazlegrove would have had any qualifiers.

To qualify for this prestigious event you have to be ranked in the top 20 in your individual event or be one of the top 20 teams in the respective relay event.  This is very tough and in some events 187 swimmers/schools are ranked (this does not include those that were disqualified at their regional event!)

I am delighted to say that the following Hazlegrove swimmers would have qualified – the numbers in the brackets are their ranking and the number of swimmers in that event - Congratulations:

5 Individuals:

Arthur M – U11 Freestyle (4/155)

Arthur F - U10 Backstroke (9/139)

Imogen W – U13 Breaststroke (12/73)

Dino B – U11 Breaststroke (14/136)

Emily W – U13 Backstroke (14/64)

4 relay teams:

U13 Girls Freestyle Relay (5/66) - Skye F, Emily W, Florence D, Imogen W

U13 Girls Medley Relay (6/61) – Skye F, Emily W, Florence D, Imogen W

U11 Boys Medley Relay (11/118) – George W, Dino B, Hugo F, Arthur M

U11 Boys Freestyle Relay (16/132)  - George W, Dino B, Hugo F, Arthur M

We will celebrate this fantastic achievement when we can get back together as a school but for our wonderful Year 8 swimmers, who have inspired so many of our younger swimmers – for some of whom this would have been their 4th consecutive National IAPS Final – we say a huge thank you and well done.
