First Weekend of 2020 is Great Fun for our Boarders
2020 started off on a high with a great in-weekend for the boarders.
With a busy day ahead everyone was well fuelled by our brilliant kitchen staff and treated to a full English breakfast. To help start the new year on the right foot the boarders old and young embarked on a team building challenge. The girls and boys were tested in all areas from archery and a hockey goal shootout to the ‘floating stick’ and egg throwing challenges. There was much hilarity and success all-round and it was great to see the different year groups pulling together to beat the challenges.
After our morning tournament, we were treated to a delicious Sunday roast before piling into the sports hall for some amazing feathery visitors. It was an absolute treat to see some truly amazing birds of prey as well as learn about these magnificent creatures. My new fact of 2020 is that Golden Eagles are the second fastest animals in the world and can fly higher than Mount Everest! All of the children (sadly not the adults) were lucky enough to fly one of either a little owl, tawny owl, barn owl, harris hawk or great grey owl. I was particularly impressed with the bravery of some of the children as the great grey owl was about the same size as many of them.
Our Year 8s also got to enjoy the late winter sun and some fresh air as they enjoyed a walk around the beautiful Montacute House. As well as chapel and letter writing, we rounded the day off with hot chocolate and a film to relax after a busy day of activities. The blustery, changeable January weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and it has been a fantastic start to the boarders’ Spring term.
