Eating, Dancing and Laughing at the Boarders' Feast

Eating, Dancing and Laughing at the Boarders' Feast

Prep Boarding

As Mr Farquhar spoke about in a touching Christingle service on Sunday evening, it is important, especially at this time of year, to love each other deeply and forgive always. The boarders really exemplified those traits this weekend by being such positive and uplifting company and being so patient with one another.

The weekend began with the boarders' feast. The Year 8s joined the resident staff for a drink in the front hall to kick off the evening, looking and behaving very grown up! The rest of the borders then joined them in the dining hall for a festive evening, begun by Mr Cranfield on the bagpipes. The children were all wonderful company and an absolute pleasure to eat with, really rising to the occasion!

One of the absolute highlights was the rendition of 12 days of Christmas led by the wonderful Miss Milne for her last ever boarders' feast accompanied by Mr Birch on guitar and Miss Rudd on the snare drum.

We were also joined by the inspiring Mr Mitra, an English teacher from King’s Bruton and parent to two Hazlegrove pupils, who delivered a wonderful speech on his time as a travel journalist in Tibet. The children were incredibly engaged and completely engrossed in his fascinating story.

We then headed over to the sports hall for a spot of Scottish dancing - exactly what everyone needed after a delicious three course meal! The children were all in great spirits and fully embraced the event, all leaving with smiles on their faces and a spring in their step.

After a cooked breakfast on Sunday, the borders were faced with the difficult decision of choosing an activity to do for the morning, with so many things on offer! They were participating in everything from Go-Karts to Laser Tag, Christmas Craft to Obstacle courses and the Year 8 girls had a shopping spree in Street. The morning was a great success.

We then all tucked into a scrumptious roast lunch ready for the magic show put on by Malcom the Magician. The show featured many festive tricks and was great fun for all of the children (and staff too!!).

I know I am not alone in saying that the children really showed the heart of boarding this weekend with their willing attitudes and gratitude for all of the activities put on. It truly was a special way to end the term.
