Year 3 Learn More About Judaism with Sara
Year 3 were delighted to welcome Sara, our visitor from London, into the classroom to learn more about her faith, Judaism.
The children listened intently as Sara explained the similarities and differences between Judaism and Christianity before teaching Year 3 about Shabbat. Shabbat is observed from a few minutes before sunset on Friday evening until the appearance of three stars in the sky on Saturday night. Shabbat is ushered in by lighting candles and reciting a blessing. The children also learnt 'Shabbat Shalom' a traditional Jewish song.
Year 3 were excited to sit down at the table as six children reenacted what would happen at a Jewish family meal on Shabbat, taking on the roles of Grandma, Grandpa, Mummy, Daddy, Brother and Sister. Everyone then tucked into challah and grape juice to mirror what a Jewish family would also do.
