Prep Trips

Stepping back in time and visiting Roman Britain at New Barn was very exciting.

Year 3 were greeted by Davidus – a Roman solider responsible for controlling the Celts. Davidus showed us his home and shared stories of how different life was in those times. We learnt that walls were made from mixing cow dung with chalk and that Roman’s had under floor heating!

We then discovered how to make medicine using grasses, mixing it together with a pestle and mortar. This was called a poultice and was used to stop bleeding, just like a modern day plaster!

The children worked hard to churn milk to make butter but sadly we were not successful. Nevertheless we persevered! Learning about Roman numerals was really fascinating and carving onto stone and wax was great fun.

"Our day was really special. It was the most interesting and exciting trip ever… and lunch was really incredible! I could not stop talking about it when I got home.  I even made Roman cement over the weekend using horse manure and clay!" Sacha C
