Year 4 Bring Tudors to Life at Ufton Court
On 1 October, Year 4 travelled from to beautiful Ufton Court in Berkshire.
The site featured an enormous mansion and wonderful surrounding gardens. We were based in an enormous barn and taken on a journey by two Tudor ’explorers’. The entire year group was transformed into a galleon. Children became cannons, and hurled small cannon balls at oncoming ships.
They then split into small ‘crews’ to build their own mast from wood and fabric and were bestowed the name of one of Drake’s famous ships. From there they sailed to America, India, Jamaica and many other places, where the children found intriguing and unknown things to take back to Queen Elizabeth. Each crew member had a job, ranging from the look-out with the telescope, to the navigator with a map and compass, and even someone to support the heavy mast. On arrival back to England, our Tudor-dressed explorers received knighthoods from none other than Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth.
They marvelled at portraits of Drake and Elizabeth, inspected maps and came away with our minds full of knowledge of the life of explorers.
