A spectacular showcase of Speech and Drama
Hazlegrove pupils took part in another successful Speech and Drama Evening last week showcasing talent and confidence to a theatre full of parents and teachers.
Samantha H opened the evening with a splendid monologue from Romeo and Juliet. Without a practice rehearsal in the theatre all children performed one of their exam pieces with confidence with the knowledge they had all achieved fantastic LAMDA results.
Pupils watched the showcase, eagerly learning from each other and waited excitedly to perform. We had a mixture of scenes and nearly half were devised. Stories included a couple of air hostesses surmising on the disappearance of a suspicious lady on a plane which generated much laughter from the audience. Another interesting scene played by Grace L and Samantha H featured a young girl becoming horrified that she had been talking to ghost from the Titanic. We enjoyed a pantomime scene from Fergus D and Max C in which both played girls. Well known stories included ‘The Glass Slipper’ played by Isabella B and Felicity F, ‘James and the Giant Peach’ played by May H and Emily S and ‘The Lemon Sisters’ played by Martha P and Alice S. Less well known pieces included ‘Sammy Carducci’s Guide to Women’ played with much humour by Hector M and Douglas W.
A total of 55 children took part in 26 performances. All performers had great fun and all were congratulated and commended by Mr White for their confident, clear characterisations.
As ever, a big thank you to Mrs Mahony and parents who once again produced some fantastic costumes. We also had lots of help from Mr Holden, Mrs Cran, Mr Shaw, Miss White, Mrs Hunter, Mr Sebastian, Mr Stoker and Mr Morrison. Thank you so much to Mr O’Neill, Casper S and Angus R who were in charge of the lights. Finally, a huge thank you to all of who attended and supported the evening and helped make it a great success.
