Resilience and good humour ensured Year 8 had a fabulous leavers' trip despite the weather
We all know that the weather in Cornwall is ‘mixed’. Unfortunately this year it was not mixed – just wet! And it coincided with the decision to camp for the whole week too!
Fortunately the children at Hazlegrove are made of stern stuff and embraced all that was thrown at them with resilience and humour. The children quickly learnt to shut their tents properly, zip up their bags and have their waterproofs to hand. We were also fortunate to have great food (courtesy of Mrs O’Neill), a large marquee in which to shelter and eat in and a fantastic staff team, who worked tirelessly to look after, feed and entertain the children.
Activities included coasteering, stand up paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking, surfing, coastal walk, swimming, body boarding, aqua park and a last minute visit to the Eden Project (it was too wet to cycle the Camel Trail!). Evening entertainment ended up being based in the marquee but still produced wonderful memories.
We returned on Friday very damp and exhausted, but happy. It was indeed a memorable time!
