Year 4 entranced by the mystery of Stonehenge
It was the hottest day of the year, the day of the summer solstice. What a day to choose to visit Stonehenge with nearly 40 children swelling the numbers of tourists crowding round the stones.
The odds were certainly stacked against us this year, not just with the searing heat but also having to contend with a delayed departure waiting for pupils stuck in traffic to arrive at school. However, we had a wonderful morning and all credit to the excellent behaviour and attitude of all the children. They were entranced by the mystery of the stones and their sheer size; we were so impressed by the level of their questioning and their observations. They all wanted to stay the night and climb on stones to celebrate the solstice, but back to school we came, very hot and shiny, but with a far greater understanding about Stonehenge.
